NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - A tour boat will be providing free trips on Lake Memphremagog to cancer patients and their families next spring.
Floating Grace, an electric-powered 22-foot Duffy, will start offering tours on the international lake just after Memorial Day, the Caledonian Record reported.
The free tours are supported by a number of sources, including Vermont Electric Co-op’s Community Fund, which announced the plans on Thursday, the newspaper reported.
“Our goal is to provide a respite from the daily struggles of dealing with this disease that touches far too many of us,” said Chris Johansen of Newport City, who will captain the boat.
The roughly two-hour tours will be by appointment. The boat would be available for as many as two or up to a family of 12, Johansen said.
Floating Grace joins Northern Star, the other tour boat on the lake.
