TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - A woman has suffered critical injuries in an apartment fire in Topeka, officials there said.

The fire broke out overnight, with firefighters responding around 1:30 a.m. Monday, television station KSNT reported. Firefighters entered the burning building and found a 55-year-old woman, who was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, fire officials said. Her name had not yet been released by midday Monday.

Officials had not determined the cause of the fire following a preliminary investigation. The fire started in a single unit of the apartment building, officials said.
