MLOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. (AP) - A toddler was killed early Monday when a fast-moving fire roared through a mobile home in western Pennsylvania, authorities said.
The fire in Mount Pleasant Township was reported shortly after 4 a.m., and firefighters arrived on scene a short time later. The body of a 2-year-old girl was later found in the trailer, and the county coroner’s office identified her as Charli Lynn Marie Olson.
Her father, John Olson, told WTAE-TV that he tried to climb in through a window to rescue her but was unable to get inside due to smoke. He called Charli the “sweetest little girl you’d ever seen” who had “a smile on her face anytime she’d walk around.”
No other injuries were reported. At least three other people were also in the trailer when the blaze broke out but they were all able to safely escape the flames, authorities said.
John Olson said he believes the blaze stemmed from coals on a wood-burning stove and urged others not to use such a stove. A state police fire marshal is investigating and will make an official ruling on the cause of the fire.
