HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. (AP) - A small plane crashed during an attempted landing at a central New Jersey airport, but authorities said the pilot and his lone passenger were not injured.

The crash at Central Jersey Regional Airport occurred around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, when the single-engine Cessna 172 veered off a runway and flipped over, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Philip McPherson, 32, of Bound Brook, was piloting the plane, authorities said. McPherson and his passenger - Sundaresh Siddiah, 52, of Edison - safely exited the aircraft a short time later, and no one on the ground was injured in the incident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
