GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - A Virginia man was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison for kidnapping a woman and trying to have her killed to keep her from testifying against him, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
U.S. District Judge George J. Hazel also sentenced Henry Lee Kenner II, 43, of Alexandria, Virginia, to five years of supervised release on charges of kidnapping and witness tampering. Kenner had previously entered into a plea agreement.
According to his plea agreement, Kenner drove in June 2019 from Virginia to the victim’s home in Prince Frederick, Maryland, where an argument ensued before he hit the woman and cut her hand with a knife before taking her to his car.
A Maryland State Police trooper called Kenner on his cellular phone and asked him to take the woman back to her home. Instead, he drove to Virginia before he dropped the woman off at a hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Kenner ultimately turned himself in to state police.
Last December as he awaited trial, prosecutors said Kenner tried to persuade someone to kill the woman for money to keep her from testifying against him. The prosecutors said the person didn’t carry out the plan and wasn’t paid.
