DITTMER, Mo. (AP) - Two people have been arrested following a police chase of a stolen tractor that involved shots fired at deputies and a deputy’s cruiser crashing into a bystander’s car, authorities in eastern Missouri said.
The chase began Sunday night when Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of two people using a trailer to steal a farm tractor, television station KTVI reported. When deputies tried to stop the suspected pickup truck pulling the tractor on a rural highway, a chase ensued, officials said, and the tractor eventually fell off the trailer near De Soto.
A suspect in the passenger seat of the truck fired three shots at the pursuing deputies, but no one was injured in the shooting, officials said. At one point when the pickup veered around around a vehicle, a chasing deputy’s car hit the bystander’s vehicle, officials said. No one was hurt in the crash.
The suspects eventually bailed out of the pickup in Washington County and were arrested a short time later, officials said.
