OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha chiropractor has been accused of using opioid-laced cookies and blackberry brandy to drug a client before sexually assaulting her.
Matthew Skaff, 51, was charged Thursday with first-degree sexual assault and ordered held on $75,000 bail, the Omaha World-Herald reported. Skaff was arrested Monday after a 50-year-old woman reported being assaulted at Skaff’s apartment on Oct. 18.
The woman had been a client of Skaff’s for several years when she went to his apartment for a back adjustment, prosecutors said. The woman told police Skaff served her cookies and blackberry brandy and that she soon found herself unable to move while Skaff assaulted her. The woman later went to a hospital, where she tested positive for sedatives and opioids, officials said.
Police searched Skaff’s apartment and found the cookies, prosecutors said. Officials are awaiting results from lab tests of the cookies.
Michael Fitzpatrick, Skaff’s attorney, said the encounter was consensual.
At the time of the alleged assault, Skaff was already on probation for an indecent exposure conviction. Prosecutors say that charge stemmed from a Dec. 18 incident in which he exposed himself to a client at his office.
