MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter for a high-speed car chase that injured his ex-girlfriend and killed a friend she was riding with.

Dana King Jr. faces up to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced in January. The Valley Stream resident pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault.

Nassau County prosecutors say the 24-year-old King waited outside ex-girlfriend Isabel Rodriguez’s house in Valley Stream on the night of March 19 and followed her as she left with 22-year-old Jim Hayes Jr. in Hayes’ green 2007 BMW.

During the chase from Valley Stream to Hempstead, King’s black 2009 Audi made contact with Hayes’ car. The chase ended when King rammed Hayes’ car, sending it airborne and into a tree. The BMW then spun out of control and crashed into two parked cars.

Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene. Rodriguez suffered a broken arm and broken back.
