EASTON, Kan. (AP) - A volunteer firefighter died in a crash while on his way to a fire in far northeastern Kansas over the weekend, authorities there said.
The crash happened Sunday in Leavenworth County near Easton, sheriff’s officials told the Leavenworth Times. The Easton Township Fire Department announced on its Facebook page that one of its volunteers “was killed in the line of duty in a traffic accident while responding to the fire.”
Johnny Ivison Jr., 23, died in the crash, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators said the crash occurred in a curve in the road and that Ivison’s pickup truck rolled several times, throwing Ivison from the vehicle. Members of the Alexandria Township Fire Department came upon the wreckage while on their way to the fire.
Ivison was the father of two young children, according to his family.
