PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Health officials in Rhode Island reported four additional deaths and nearly 800 more cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday.

The state Department of Health has reported there were more than 200 patients being treated for COVID-19 in Rhode Island hospitals as of Sunday.

Rhode Island has reported more than 1,200 deaths and nearly 39,000 known cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic started.

The average positivity rate in Rhode Island has risen over the past two weeks from 3% on Oct. 26 to 3.92% on Nov. 9. The average daily new cases in the state has risen over the past two weeks from more than 380 new cases per day on Oct. 26 to more than 550 on Nov. 9.

State health departments are calculating positivity rate differently across the country, but for Rhode Island the AP calculates the rate by dividing new cases by test encounters using data from The COVID Tracking Project.
