CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Charles City man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a 9-year-old Sioux City boy.

Jesse Blade, 30, was sentenced Monday in Floyd County District Court, the Sioux City Journal reported. Blade pleaded in September to vehicular homicide while intoxicated, a second-offense of operating while intoxicated and three counts of serious injury by vehicle.

Prosecutors had said Blade ran a stop sign on Oct. 26, 2019, at a rural intersection near Rudd, hitting a minivan and killing 9-year-old Royce Fisher. Three other people in the minivan also were injured.

Court documents show Blade’s blood-alcohol level registered at 0.137% after the crash, above Iowa’s legal limit of 0.08. Blade also tested positive for cocaine, prosecutors said.
