BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Maine forestry officials are asking for the public’s help in locating trees that were sold earlier this year and might have contained an invasive forest pest.
The ash trees were sold at Lowe’s stores in Maine in the spring and summer and might contain the emerald ash borer, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry said. The borer kills ash trees.
The forestry department said the trees retailed for $29.98 and were labeled as “Ash Green, Fraxinus pennsylvanica.”
Customers bought 36 of the trees from stores in southern, central and eastern Maine, the department said.
People who might have bought the trees are asked to call the Maine State Horticulture Program at 207-287-7545.
