MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) - A man who called 911 and said he had just killed someone was arrested after sheriff’s deputies found his mother stabbed to death at her Los Angeles area home, authorities said.

Alex Escobar, 34, was standing outside the house in Monterey Park with his hands up when deputies arrived Tuesday morning, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader.

His 65-year-old mother was found in the living room with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso, officials said.

Two knives were found near the body, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported. The coroner’s office didn’t immediately release the name of the victim.

Escobar was arrested on suspicion of murder, Schrader said. It wasn’t known Wednesday if he has an attorney.

Investigators haven’t identified a motive.

Escobar was held in lieu of $2 million bail.
