TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man and his girlfriend have been arrested for alleged child abuse in connection with a toddler’s death in Tucson, police said Wednesday.
They said 3-year-old Bryson Skinner died Tuesday after finding a handgun in his family’s home and apparently shooting himself by accident.
Police said the toddler was taken to a Tucson hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police said the child’s relatives were home during the incident.
Detectives on Wednesday announced the arrests of 19-year-old William Skinner and his 22-year-old girlfriend, Valerie Faidley.
Police say Skinner is a relative of the child who died, but further details weren’t immediately released.
Faidley and her boyfriend both were booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of felony child abuse and were being held on $5,000 bonds.
It was unclear if either Skinner or Faidley has a lawyer yet.
