SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A man was killed after he was struck by a tow truck that was loading his vehicle to be driven away, Springfield police said.

Matthew Canovi, 63, of Brighton, died Saturday after he was hit by the truck while standing on the shoulder of U.S. 65 in Springfield, police said.

Alan Goodkin, 29, was operating driving the tow truck and was reversing when Canovi was hit, police said.

Canovi died at the scene. Goodkin was not injured.

The investigation is continuing but police said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
