BOSTON (AP) - The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Massachusetts has risen 2 cents in the past week, AAA Northeast reported Tuesday.

Self-serve, regular is now selling for an average of $1.94 per gallon, which is 2 cents lower than the national average and 84 cents lower than the Bay State price one year ago.

Higher prices are being driven by fluctuations in crude oil prices and demand, AAA said in a statement.

One factor that could cause a spike in gas prices is the Atlantic hurricane season starting June 1, which the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts will be above normal, with the potential for 13 to 19 named storms.

AAA found a wide range of prices for regular, from a low of $1.60 per gallon to a high of $2.39.
