ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont World War II memorial dedicated to St. Johnsbury men who were killed in military action will soon have three names added to it.

The names of three men whose lives were lost since WWII will be added to the marble on Memorial Day, the Caledonian Record reported Friday.

The men to be honored are Sgt. Paul D. Lacroix, SP4 Bruce A. Paquette and 2nd Lt. Joseph D. Fortin. Lacroix and Paquette were killed in Vietnam, and Fortin was killed in Iraq.

The 9-foot slab of marble has 47 names and has not been carved since Memorial Day of 1955.

The idea to add names came from two residents who reached out to local veteran organizations to honor men who lost their lives since WWII.

“My biggest fear is that these young men in these wars are just going to be forgotten,” said Martin Fortin, father of Joey Fortin and member of the committee that worked to get the names carved.
