BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The consultants who assessed the Bennington Police Department policies and procedures following criticism of the department’s response to reports of racial harassment of a black state lawmaker will be answering questions about the report that were submitted by the public.

The Select Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in an virtual session with the team from the International Association of Chiefs of Police that released its report last month, the Bennington Banner reported. The meeting held through videoconferencing will be shown live on the local cable network, CAT-TV. Viewers will also have an opportunity to call into the meeting and ask questions.

The report, which makes recommendations for improvements, found that the Bennington Police Department’s practices have created deep mistrust in parts of the community, undermining its “law enforcement legitimacy.”

The board is expected to consider the 25 recommendations in upcoming meetings.
