GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) - Police officers fatally shot an armed Tennessee man who did not follow directives early Sunday to drop his weapons, authorities said.

Police in the Memphis suburb of Germantown were responding to a report of a domestic disturbance involving gunfire when they encountered Brian Cooper, 49, with several firearms, a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

For reasons still under investigation, three officers fired at Cooper after he declined to drop the weapons, killing him, the statement said. No officers were injured.

The shooting took place in an affluent subdivision with many two-story homes, news outlets reported.

The bureau is investigating the shooting. No further details were immediately released.
