PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Several Rhode Island farms have received grants to help make their operations more environmentally friendly.
The $100,000 in “green” grants from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management in partnership with the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources and the Rhode Island Resource Conservation & Development Area Council will support solar and energy efficiency projects at five farms.
“Farm Energy Grants are helping Rhode Island farming families grow their businesses, conserve energy, and make Rhode Island cleaner and greener,” Department of Environmental Management Director Janet Coit said in a statement.
The grants also save money on operating costs, Acting Energy Commissioner Nicholas Ucci said.
This year’s grant recipients are The Farm, in Chepachet; Emma Acres in Exeter; Sprout Organic Farm in North Providence; Gnarly Roots Farm in Tiverton; and Masson Farm in Wakefield.
