OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - First responders in one Mississippi city are getting hazard pay over the next 10 weeks.

Ocean Springs police officers and firefighters will get a $100 bump in their next 10 pay checks, WLOX-TV reported.

The city’s Board of Aldermen approved the bump Wednesday. It comes as the city continues to fight the COVID-19 crisis, and just days after firefighters and police worked together to protect the community from Tuesday’s brush fire.

“You know it’s going to mean a lot when we look at our personnel and tell them they can expect a little bit of a bump in their income. It’s going to go a long way,” said Ocean Springs Fire Chief Derek McCoy.
