KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Tennessee have arrested a suspect accused of shooting three women to death in one night.

Knoxville police found the first victim lying in the road around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, the agency said in a statement. Officers found two other women dead in a home several miles away later that morning, the department confirmed.

Investigators identified Desmon Rhea, 24, as a suspect and took him into custody about 12 hours after the first victim was found, the police statement said.

The department didn’t comment on what led them to Rhea, or his relationship to the three slain women. He was being held without bond on Sunday pending formal charges, and it’s unclear whether he has an attorney who can comment on his behalf, news outlets reported.

The victims haven’t been publicly identified.
