PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Rhode Island has dropped 2 cents in the past week, and is likely to drop lower, AAA Northeast said Monday.

Self-serve, regular is now selling for an average of $2.41 per gallon, which is 3 cents higher than the national average. A year ago, the average per-gallon price in Rhode Island was a penny lower.

“Today’s plunge in crude oil prices is in response to a lack of agreement between OPEC countries and non-OPEC countries on cutting production,” AAA spokesman Lloyd Albert said in a statement. “The trend of lower pump prices is likely to continue through the end of the winter driving season if crude remains cheap, especially amid concerns about the coronavirus.”

AAA found a low of $2.29 per gallon for regular, and a high of $2.59.
