NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A Connecticut woman died after she was struck on a New Jersey highway over the weekend.

Authorities in Essex County said Monday the accident occurred early Sunday. They said Diana Carolina Gonzalez-Rivera, 29, of Stamford was driving a Honda Civic on Routes 1 & 9 in Newark when she stopped the car, got out and walked into oncoming traffic.

She was struck by two cars and was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at University Hospital in Newark. Gonzalez-Rivera’s minor son was in the car at the time and wasn’t injured.

No charges had been filed against the drivers of the other cars. An investigation is ongoing.
