STOWE, Vt. (AP) - A trail at Vermont’s Stowe Mountain Resort will be named after snowboard pioneer Jake Burton Carpenter, the founder of Burton Snowboards, who died in November.
Stowe will rename one its trails “Jake’s Ride.” Mynbc5.com reports that the trail was a personal favorite of Carpenter’s. The trail sign will be replaced during a ceremony on Friday, March 13, at 12:45 p.m. The event can only be accessed by snowboarders and skiers riding the lift. Snowboarders will take a celebratory ride down the trail afterward.
The ceremony takes place on the same day as Burton Snowboards’ “A Day for Jake” campaign, in which some resorts are offering free passes in honor of Carpenter.
Carpenter died Nov. 20 of complications stemming from a relapse of testicular cancer. He was 65.
