FERNDALE, Calif., (AP) - A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck a spot off the coast of Northern California on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The earthquake hit at 6:59 p.m. and was centered in a spot 55.5 miles (89.5 km) west of Ferndale, a town of about 1,300 people along the Pacific Coast. The earthquake had a depth of 1.2 miles (2 km.)

There are no reports of damage so far.
