CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Two men have died after an apparent industrial accident Wednesday at an oil drilling site in southern New Mexico, authorities said.

Eddy County deputies responded to the accident Wednesday where they found Nicholas D. Gerberich, 28, of Roswell and Storm Hutchins, 24, of Carlsbad lying on the ground, unconscious and not breathing, county Sheriff Mark Cage said.

Emergency medical service personnel pronounced both men dead at the scene.

The accident occurred at a Concho Resources lease location, authorities said.

Carlsbad Current-Argus and KRQE-TV said their attempts seeking comment from Concho Resources were unsuccessful.

The county sheriff’s office is still working to determine what happened.

“There are numerous hazards. There are high powerlines. There is moving machinery, heavy equipment, poisonous gases. It can be dangerous for people working there and people traveling through that area,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were also on scene.
