PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A man walking on an interstate highway in Rhode Island was struck by several cars and killed Thursday morning, state police said.

Alfonso Rodriguez, 53, of Providence was struck at about 5 a.m. on Interstate 95 in downtown Providence, police said.

Authorities say it’s not clear why he was walking on the highway.

The drivers of the three cars that struck him have not been charged but police say they’re still investigating the incident.

The crash caused lane closures and snarled traffic for hours during the morning commute.
