JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A child died Monday night when fire broke out in a home in Jacksonville, fire officials said.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was called to the scene around 6:30 p.m. Crews said smoke was billowing from a second floor window and two people who had made it out of the home told firefighters someone was still inside.

Firefighters made it to the bedroom, where they found the child, First Coast News reported.



The child’s name and age have not been released.

The was no initial word on what caused the fire.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating the fire.
