LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Jake Gibbs, a member of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council in Kentucky, died, Mayor Linda Gorton said Tuesday. He was 66.
The cause of death was not given.
“He enjoyed and fiercely protected our historic neighborhoods and downtown,” Gorton’s statement said. “An avid walker and cyclist, he staunchly defended the environment, encouraging the growth of our urban forest and safeguarding our farmland.”
Gibbs represented much of downtown and neighborhoods surrounding the University of Kentucky, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.
Gibbs was first elected in 2014. He announced last year he would not seek reelection in November.
