I read with interest Peter Morici’s column, “Narcissistic Democrats will destroy free markets and constitutional rights” (Web, March 2). I agree with Mr. Morici’s analysis, but I believe one likely result of a Bernie/Warren presidency has been overlooked.

Mr. Morici correctly catalogues what is likely to happen to our economy and freedoms with a Bernie transformation of the U.S.: shutting down oil companies and nationalizing electric utilities, state management of the automobile and transportation sectors, as well as the vetting of many aspects of corporate and educational leadership to ensure correct political thinking, etc. However, no one warns the media what is likely to happen to them. While they are cheerleaders for Bernie and fail to aggressively vet him as they have pursued President Trump, the impact to them could be ’transformative’ as well. Although they commit acts of journalism from time to time, Bernie would likely follow the tactics of the socialist dictators he embraces and take control of the media, too — and end any real journalism.

Remember, Bernie’s love of Fidel Castro’s ’education reform’ is really a love of propaganda and political thought conformance. Although the First Amendment may prevent a direct nationalization of the media, nothing would prevent Bernie from taking over all the industries and academia that support media outlets, and thus bend it to his will as well. Not that it would be all that difficult to do, considering the media’s biased performance over the past decade.

So, mainstream media, be careful what you ask for — you may get it and end up transformed.
