LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas man who fatally shot his two teenage sons and them himself had gotten angry when one of the sons called police to report the father was handling a gun while drinking, police said Saturday.
Officers found the bodies of 45-year-old Alejandro Figueroa and the two sons inside the family home Friday night after a person called 911 to report gunfire, police said. The sons’ identities weren’t released.
Homicide investigators determined that Figueroa was drinking and handling a gun when it accidentally discharged, police said in a statement released Saturday afternoon.
“One of the victims called the police due to Figueroa handling firearms while intoxicated. Figueroa became upset and shot the victims before turning the firearm on himself,” the statement said.
Police Lt. Ray Spencer earlier told reporters that a teenage girl was climbing out of a window when officers first arrived at the home and that she told police her father was shooting and that her brothers were still inside.
SWAT officers summoned to the scene for a possible hostage rescue entered the home and found Figueroa and the two sons dead, police said.
The girl was not injured and Figueroa’s wife was not home at the time, police said..
