TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in a 2018 fatal shooting.
Pima County prosecutors say Anthony Rene Fimbres was sentenced Monday.
He was convicted last November in connection with an April 2018 drive-by shooting that killed 51-year-old Jesus Castro and wounded the victim’s son.
Tucson police said Castro was sitting in his truck talking to his two sons when a vehicle pulled up and someone opened fire.
Castro died at a hospital, but his injured son recovered.
Tucson TV station KOLD reported that Fimbres owned a vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the shooting and that was later found burning only a few streets away from the crime scene.
Police said Fimbres had purchased the vehicle just before the shooting and a search warrant resulted in additional evidence found in the suspect’s home.
