Stocks tumbled again in early trading on Wednesday, giving back all of their gains from a day earlier as markets remained volatile while Washington grapples with a relief plan for the coronavirus pandemic.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost more than 1,200 points, or more than 5%, after the opening bell. That erased all of Tuesday’s gains.

The S&P 500 also lost more than 5% in early trading.

The White House is urging Congress to adopt a roughly $1 trillion fiscal relief plan to help workers and businesses hurt by the outbreak.
