PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The price of gasoline in Rhode Island continues to fall amid pressure on the global economy from the new coronavirus and an international crude oil price war, AAA Northeast said Monday.
The average price of a gallon of self-serve, regular in the state dropped 4 cents in the past week to $2.37, AAA said.
Rhode Island’s price is 12 cents higher than the national per-gallon average of $2.25. A year ago, the average price in Rhode Island was $2.46 per gallon.
“Pump prices are declining significantly as the global economy faces downward pressure from COVID-19 fears and the ongoing crude price war between Russia and OPEC nations,” AAA spokesman Lloyd Albert said in a statement. “Consumers can expect to see continued savings as the industry factors in a fully 50% decrease in the price of a barrel of oil since mid-January.”
AAA found regular selling for as low as $2.19 in Rhode Island and as high as $2.55.
