PROVIDENCE. R.I. (AP) - An 11-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was momentarily pinned against a building by a pickup truck that drove from the scene, police in Rhode Island said.
The girl was helping a neighbor bring in groceries in Providence at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday when she was struck by the truck that first hit a parked car and another moving vehicle, police said.
The girl was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.
A patrol officer saw debris and followed a trail of automotive fluid that led to the heavily damaged pickup a short distance away, Deputy Chief Thomas Verdi said.
The driver, Agostinho Politano, 26, of Providence, was charged with failing to stop for an accident causing injury and two misdemeanor counts of failing to stop for an accident causing damage to a vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
Politano’s case was not listed in online court records and it could not be determined if he has an attorney.
