KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The December death of a 2-year-old girl in Kansas City has been ruled a homicide, according to police.
Police said Stevie Osborn died Dec. 23 from injuries that officials have not detailed, the Kansas City Star reported Saturday.
The homicide determination was made Feb. 20 following a two-month investigation, police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina said. The newspaper reported it only recently learned of the child’s death after a reporter contacted police to verify the city’s number of homicides for 2019.
Officers and medics were called to an apartment the morning of Dec. 23 for a medical emergency, Becchina said, and first responders found the child unresponsive inside the apartment. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Police have identified a person of interest in the case, but no arrests or charges have been made, Becchina said.
