SALINA, Kan. (AP) - Authorities say one person has been found dead inside a Salina home after a standoff and fire.
Salina police said in a Facebook post that the standoff started Wednesday after an officer saw a man with an arrest warrant for burglary riding a bicycle. When the officer approached, the man rode off and went into a home.
While officers were waiting outside for backup, several people exited the home, saying there was a man inside with a gun who was acting suicidal. The man refused to speak to negotiators, but a woman who also was inside said he had threatened to burn down the home if police tried to enter it.
After several hours, the woman exited the home and was taken into custody for a probation violation. SWAT officers then injected four rounds of a nonflammable CS cold gas into the home in an effort to have the suspect exit. Police then noticed a fire in the home and heard several shots.
Firefighters found a body inside after extinguishing the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the name of the person found dead in the home wasn’t immediately released.
