ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A man was found dead in a recreational vehicle camper that was on fire in Rochester, New Hampshire, firefighters said Wednesday.

Fire and police departments were called to the area at about 2 a.m. for a report of heavy smoke. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, preventing it from spreading to a nearby home.

Positive identification of the man and cause of death were pending an autopsy.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, but pointed out in a statement that portable heaters must be plugged directly into an electrical outlet, and that extension cords and power strips aren’t equipped to handle the extra current flow.
