The handling of the coronavirus in China is eerily reminiscent of Russia’s handling of the Chernobyl disaster. Instead of being open and seeking the world’s assistance, Communist China attempted to withhold valuable information that could have been used to prevent the spread of the virus, even influencing other countries not to impose travel bans, which could have resulted in better containment.

At Chernobyl, the same diabolical mentality was present, as the Communist Party determined for the masses that secrecy was the best policy. This resulted in thousands of men, women and children being affected by radiation that could have been prevented had evacuations occurred immediately. Were it not for scientists in Sweden, who detected the radioactive fallout, the delay could have been even longer.

Therein lies the fallacy of communism and its inherent disregard for humanity. In America, our government exists to protect the God-given rights of its people. Our Founding Fathers wisely considered the dark side of humankind and realized that when people were given absolute control, absolute tyranny would be the result.

Almost immediately after the coronavirus was identified, President Trump initiated travels bans and quarantines that have helped curb the virus in our country. The media has yet to acknowledge his leadership.

The real loser in all this is Sen. Bernie Sanders. The evidence of the failure of Mr. Sanders’ dearly held doctrines are now on display to the entire world. Not even his qualifier of democratic socialism can hide the inherent danger of this flawed philosophy.
