MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Taxes has created a tool for people to estimate their education property taxes for the 2020-2021 tax year.

The tool, which is based on a taxpayer’s combination of property value and household income, was created to help taxpayers, schools and local officials understand the impact of their budget vote on Town Meeting Day.

The department emphasizes the figures produced by the tool are estimates only and final tax amounts will depend on decisions made by the Legislature and other factors.

To use the tool, taxpayers will need information from their current-year property tax bill and an estimate of the per-pupil spending amount.
