WESTFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say an 87-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing a busy intersection in northern New Jersey.

Police in Westfield said the Scotch Plains man was struck shortly before 1 p.m. Friday. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name wasn’t immediately released pending notification of his family. No charges were immediately filed.



Police are investigating with the aid of the Union County police crash scene analysis team.
