HANAHAN, S.C. (AP) - Police in a South Carolina city have arrested a man as part of an investigation into the death of a person found inside a home.

Officers responded about 6 a.m. Friday to a home in Hanahan and found a body, Police Chief Dennis Turner said.

In custody is Matthew Speck, who faces a charge of murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and ill-treatment of animals, news outlets reported. Speck is being held at the Berkeley County Detention Center. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Turner said it’s still early in the investigation but described it as a domestic-related homicide. He did not release details about the victim.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Hanahan Police at 843-747-5711 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
