KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Parts of western Missouri saw minor damage from two weak tornadoes, as well as a rare phenomenon of two storms moving in opposite directions that collided around Kansas City.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado early Thursday morning with peak winds of 80 mph (128.7 kph) that cut an almost 2-mile (3.2-kilometer) path near Archie, south of Kansas City. Another tornado hit Wednesday night east of Kansas City with top winds of 85 mph (136.8 kph). It stayed on the ground for 6 miles (9.7 kilometers), from Blue Springs Lake to near Lake Lotawana.
Trees and power lines in and around Kansas City also were knocked down when a west-moving storm collided with an east-moving storm around 2 a.m. Thursday, the weather service said.
No injuries were reported from the storms.
According Evergy’s website, around 23,000 customers in the area were without power around 6 a.m. Thursday.
