Twitter is testing a way for users to post audio recordings on the platform to help make engaging on the social media service seem more human, the company announced Wednesday.
Known as “voice tweets,” Twitter said the function will soon allow users of the platform’s iOS app for Apple devices to share voice recordings of up to 140 seconds in length.
“There’s a lot that can be left unsaid or uninterpreted using text, so we hope voice Tweeting will create a more human experience for listeners and storytellers alike,” Twitter product designer Maya Patterson and senior software engineer Rémy Bourgoin co-wrote in a blog post announcing the new function.
The voice tweet feature was recently made available to a limited number of Twitter users ahead of being rolled out in the coming weeks to all iOS users, the blog post said.
Launched in 2006, Twitter has regularly introduced new features in the years that followed, such as allowing users to post images in 2011 and create opinion polls in 2015.
