JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s longest serving police chief is retiring.
The Johnston Police Department said Chief Richard Tamburini will retire in August after 25 years.
The department says Tamburini is currently the longest tenured police chief in the state and the longest serving chief the town, a suburb of Providence, has had in its history.
Tamburini previously served for nearly three decades in the Providence Police Department. He is a member of the Rhode Island Criminal Justice Hall of Fame and served in the U.S. Army.
He became Johnston’s police chief in August 1995. His last day will be Aug. 31.
