ST. LOUIS (AP) - A New York man was sentenced Thursday to eight years in federal prison for participating in a conspiracy to help a former Missouri man who died in Syria while fighting for the Islamic State.

Nihad Rosic, 32, of Utica, New York, pleaded guilty in December in federal court in St. Louis to providing material support to terrorists. He admitted helping Ramiz Hodzic of St. Louis County send money and supplies to Abdullah Ramo Pazara.

Pazara lived in St. Louis County until 2013, when he went to Syria and became a commander for the Islamic State. He later died fighting for the group.

Hodzic was sentenced last year to eight years in prison. Three others also have been sentenced for their roles in the conspiracy.
