ELSBERRY, Mo. (AP) - A motorist fatally shot a passenger in his car after the passenger stabbed him, authorities in eastern Missouri said.
The incident happened Tuesday night along Highway W, just west of Elsberry, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The driver had pulled over the to the side of the rural highway, and two passengers got out of his car, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said. When the driver also tried to get out of the car, a 54-year-old passenger stabbed him in the neck, investigators said.
The driver then shot the passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. The driver was treated for the stab wound at a hospital. The second passenger was not injured, and investigators said that passenger corroborated the driver’s account of the incident.
The names of those involved have not been released.
