CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The confirmed COVID-19 death toll in South Carolina increased by 74 Saturday to 1,412, the state’s largest one-day increase in reported deaths related to the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
The total number of confirmed cases reported in the state reached 79,674 according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, an increase of 1,368.
South Carolina currently isn’t providing daily hospitalization reports. The state says that since Wednesday, hospitals have been making a change to a new federal reporting system and that there are inaccuracies in reporting as the hospitals make the transition.
“Once DHEC is able to verify the information the hospitals are reporting as part of this new system is accurate and the system is fully implemented, we will resume our effort to provide daily data reports,” the department said.
