RENO, Nev. (AP) - Reno police have filed a second murder charge against a 31-year-old Sun Valley man accused of starting a fire that killed two people and injured about a dozen others at an apartment building earlier this week.

Brian Bandy was being held in the Washoe County Jail Friday on $50,000 bail. He’s been charged with two counts of open murder, first-degree arson and false imprisonment with the use of a deadly weapon.

It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one. His initial court appearance has not been set.

The blaze was reported at about 5:30 a.m. Monday at a two-story apartment complex south of downtown.

The victims have been identified as 70-year-old Katherine White and 51-year-old Diane Engstrom.

Reno Fire Battalion Chief Mark Winkelman says a few residents suffered minor injuries while jumping out of windows to escape the flames.
